Sr Systems Engineer - Linux

Ariadne is currently searching for a Linux Systems Engineer / Team Lead to provide comprehensive deployment and operations support for enterprise Linux systems at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). 

Primary Responsibilities:
• Serve as a primary point of contact for management and customer for all Linux team activities, projects, and areas of responsibility.
• Provide technical and operational leadership for a team of Linux Engineers; coordinate day-to-day projects and tasks; conduct weekly team meetings and biweekly sprint planning meetings; and maintain status updates via JIRA and ServiceNow for self and team.
• Provide systems engineering and architecture support to ongoing infrastructure operations and projects to maintain highly efficient networks of shared computing resources and data.
• Manage CentOS and RHEL Linux systems via central management tools.
• Deploy approved release packages and break-fix solutions in accordance with all enterprise architecture and configuration, change, and release management policies and procedures.
• Develop and maintain custom scripts and stored procedures to automate repetitive tasks and improve consistency in operations and maintenance activities.
• Administer PostgreSQL databases as required: Provision, delete, backup, troubleshoot, provide performance tuning, etc.
• Monitor network infrastructure, systems operations, and critical application services 24/7; provide information and statistics relevant to system limits on capacity, data storage, system utilization, etc.; respond to critical outages and restore services within agreed upon service levels.
• Maintain hardware and software across all environments (physical, virtual, cloud) and all platforms (Windows, Linux, and Mac).
• Review and assess network and systems performance; troubleshoot and resolve issues as required, and propose and implement changes aimed at continuous improvement.
• Assist in the support of the network infrastructure and IP management for local area networks, switches, routers, firewalls, wireless access points, and other network devices.
• Manage directories such as Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP), Open Directory, Kerberos and Active Directory (AD); respond to changes within service level agreements.
• Support data center operations and planning, including space and rack space management; enterprise-wide capacity planning; and ongoing power, wiring, and air conditioning maintenance.
• Break down, set up, and transport IT equipment during moves within and between government-owned or leased data centers and offices for relocation and/or surplus activities.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related business, scientific, or technical discipline
• Red Hat Certified Engineer  (RHCE) or equivalent certification
• 10+ years of experience supporting Linux systems – including CentOS and RHEL operating systems – in a fast-paced, complex 24/7 enterprise environment
• 5+ years in a team lead or managerial role with responsibilities for coordinating operations and project work and serving as go-to resource for team, customer, and application developers
• Demonstrated success in managing Linux systems via central management tools such as Satellite, Spacewalk, Puppet, Chef, etc.
• Experience deploying, troubleshooting, and maintaining applications with PostgreSQL databases
• Experience with hardware and software for networking; distributed computing; virtualization; large-scale, high-performance storage systems; databases; telephony; and cloud computing
• Experience with enterprise technologies such as Splunk, Talend, SailPoint, Amazon Web Services (AWS), CommVault, Innotas, JIRA, Serena, ServiceNow, VMware and Hyper-V.
• Ability to adapt to rapidly changing requirements with a flexible and creative approach to brainstorming, troubleshooting, and problem solving
• Ability to effectively and confidently communicate – in writing and presentations – complex topics and procedures with team members and all levels of customer stakeholders
• Must meet all requirements for obtaining and maintaining a Public Trust Clearance

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with database administration tasks in PostgreSQL to include query writing, stored procedures, backups, and performance tuning
• Experience in a scientific research and development (R&D) environment with demonstrated ability to analyze problems and propose multiple alternative solutions
• Experience providing infrastructure guidance and support to in an Agile and/or DevOps environment
• ITIL v3 Foundation or higher level certification
